Olentzero’s house is a very old house which is situated in the outskirts of Mungia.
The house is a
typical building of the Basque Country, which are called “Baserri”. The
Baserris are houses where the local people live, people who usually were
farmers. This building, especially, is one of the ancient ones; it is from the
17th century.
It was a house
owned by rich people of the town, and at the moment it is a cultural attraction
which explains the legend of the Basques’ Christmas man, called Olentzero.
Olentzero is like the Papa Noel of the Basque people, and he comes the night of
the 24th. The house receives many visits, more likely of children.
